Mediation is an effective and relatively affordable approach to resolving your conflict. Usually 3 to 5 sessions of approximately 1.5 hours under guidance of an experienced mediator are sufficient to reach a sustainable solution.
Below you can easily check the level of escalation of your conflict on a scale from 1 to 10. If you are somewhere in fase 1 to 6 the conflict can usually be resolved by mediation (in fase 7 to 9 mediation alone is probably not sufficient anymore). So the sooner the better…
As a professionally trained mediator with experience in a wide range of conflicts (and with a focus on the human side of conflicts) I can help you through this process. Do not hesitate to contact me to discuss if mediation is suitable for your conflict.
1. Irritation: Understanding decreases & discussions become more intense.
2. Debate: Feeling of competition & various strategies to convince the other
3. Action: Empathy decreases & non-verbal communication increases
4. Coalitions: Conflict is broadening & one looks for supporters
5. Loss of face: Desire to ‘unmask’ the opponent & ‘arm’ yourself
6. Threat strategies: Demands become harsher & threaten with sanctions
7. Limited destruction: Other party is the enemy & desire to inflict damage
8. Total annihilation: Isolate & ‘attack’ the enemy
9. Mutual destruction: Total confrontation & together into the abyss
Scale above inspired by Frederic Glasl
Personal background: I use to be afraid of conflicts and had become a master at avoiding them. Until I experienced the hard way that this was not a sustainable strategy and that it impoverished my life.
After a number of years of practicing ao mediation and non-violent communication I gradually managed to internalize the skills and language that enable me to address conflicts in a productive manner and to see that conflicts are also a valuable source of information and a unique opportunity for change.
Focus area’s: family and inheritance / succession, healthcare, boardroom and parent-child related tensions.
