Everybody more or less accepts the fact that the levels of biodiversity on our planet are decreasing (at a rapidly increasing pace). There is however no consensus if this will negatively affect our quality of life. Many argue that a decrease in biodiversity is of no concern as:
– there is insufficient evidence of the negative impact on us as humans of this development in the foreseeable future (see also the trends in the selective set of metrics reported by Hans Rosling),
– there are sufficient hopeful technological developments to counter the negative effects (in as far as we are aware of them) and mainly,
– the (perceived or expected) short term cost / pain of changing our behavior are too high vs this lack of evidence.

For me this no longer works. At a deeper level, and without any additional scientific evidence, I already know that my/our behavior is often not loving and doesn’t serve life, including my/our own. This is most ‘evident’ ;o) for me when I look at ‘micro’ level, moment by moment. In each moment the equation is much easier to solve when I limit myself to what I can actually do in that very moment.
If I don’t want to risk a decline in our quality of life, the search for more evidence and more technology will mainly serve as an excuse for me to delay adapting my behavior to the realization of the illusion of duality.
An alternative approach is to focus on clarifying what (collective) fears / defense mechanisms prevent us from doing what we already know is in our own best (longer term?) interest. And to find ways to free ourselves from these as they are the source of our disconnectedness.
Once we do that we can feel at an experiential level what serves our own lives and that of everything around us. And start being more compassionate towards ourselves and others as we progress.
This would be a lot easier if we would feel a collective sense of safety and trust to allow for this consciousness to develop and for space to experiment with alternative behavior. As a simultaneous collective awakening seems however unlikely at this moment I strive to align my personal behavior with my deeper knowing without the support of a broader movement.
Very simply from a desire to limit my contribution to what I already know doesn’t serve life, from moment to moment. Gradually providing me with the courage to take the next step on this path and move from a sense of scarcity to a sense of abundance. See also: Transcending events
